Let's Go Fly a Kite....

Today the August Winds are in full effect and we decided why not make good use of them and make some Kites, We had a great time out flying our Kites until we had to come in as the wind was getting too strong.
I took some time out this afternoon after we flew our Kites outside and had a little indoor picnic to take some photo's of how to make these Kites.

Below are the photo's and a brief description.

What you will need:
Paper, Scissors, Sticky Tape, String, 2 Skewers, Streamers, A Paddle Pop Stick and Either Pencils/Crayons/Texters/Paint to Decorate with.

Step One: Decorate your paper

Step Two: Make a cross with the  Skewers, Tape the centre of the Skewers then place on the paper, tape the centre of the cross to the centre of the paper, leave the ends free for now so we can complete the next step.

Step Three: Cut 2 pieces of string of equal length (Approx 10-15cm) take one piece and tie it to one end of one skewer then tie the other end to the opposite end of the same skewer, repeat with the other piece of string on the other skewer. Now tape each of the four corners down covering where the string is tied to the skewer so it cannot slip off and tape the ends of the skewers so they are secured to the paper.
Cut another length of string (Approx 1 Metre) Tie it to the other 2 strings in the centre.

Step Four: Cut about 5 pieces of Streamer in varying lengths and twist the ends together and secure with tape.

Step Five: Secure Streamers to the bottom corner of the Kite with tape, then twist sections of the streamers to give a wavy effect.

Step Six: Secure the end of the length of string to the centre of the Paddle Pop Stick with a knot then secure it in place with some tape, then wind the string around the centre of The Paddle Pop Stick.

Your Kite is now ready to Fly!!

This activity is great for introducing Children to the Wind, Showing them/bringing up the conversation of how the wind can move things, change direction, be strong and gentle, hot and cold.
